Brandon L. Jones, Anderson County Attorney

Anderson County Attorney, Brandon L. Jones, is a lifelong Kansan who was born in, raised, and is still a resident of the 4th Judicial District. Brandon graduated from Lyndon High School in Osage County, Kansas, in 1993. After high school, Brandon attended the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and then attended the University of Kansas School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in May, 2000. Brandon passed the Kansas bar exam and was admitted to the Kansas Bar in September, 2000.

While in law school, Brandon interned at the United States Attorney’s Office in Topeka, Kansas, and also at the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office in Olathe, Kansas, where he carried his own caseload and made daily court appearances including dockets, preliminary hearings, bench trials and even tried five jury trials as a law student.

After graduating from law school, Brandon accepted a position as an Assistant County Attorney in the Franklin County Attorney’s Office in Ottawa, Kansas. He worked in that office from May, 2000 through July, 2003, trying a variety of criminal cases including meth labs, domestic violence cases, and an attempted murder case. In August, 2003, Brandon accepted a position as an Assistant District Attorney in the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office in Lawrence, Kansas. In that office, Brandon started out handling traffic and juvenile cases before being promoted to a division attorney where he handled a variety of criminal cases including several felony jury trials including aggravated robbery, involuntary manslaughter, and two first degree murder cases.
Kahler Trial
In April, 2007, Brandon was appointed Osage County Attorney by the Osage County Republican Central Committee to fill an unexpired term. Brandon was elected Osage County Attorney in November of 2008, and re-elected in November of 2012, and still remains in that position today. As Osage County Attorney, Brandon represents the State of Kansas in all criminal, juvenile, and traffic cases filed in Osage County District Court.

In November, 2012, Brandon was also elected Anderson County Attorney. Brandon was sworn into office on January 14, 2013. As Anderson County Attorney, Brandon represents the State of Kansas, and the citizens of Anderson County, in all criminal, juvenile, and traffic cases filed in Anderson County District Court.

Brandon has been a prosecutor for 13 years and has tried over 50 jury trials, and countless bench trials, preliminary hearings, and other contested court hearings. He has argued cases to both the Kansas Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court. He has successfully tried several high profile cases in Osage County, including the James Kahler capital murder trial, the James Beeson child rape trial, and the Ramona Morgan felony fleeing trial, and he successfully tried the Jay Decker and Martin Miller first degree murder trials while working in Douglas County.
